Wow, another whole year has passed. What an adventure it was this year. Lots of ups and downs in my personal life, which I like to keep as private as I can. My beautiful daughter Stacey just turned 13, and is now 5'8". She's picked up the bass and guitar (I gave her a couple of "hand-me-down" instruments) and has even sat in with my band doing 'Brain Stew' by Green Day. THAT was awesome. I've showed her a few basics, and have her enrolled in a proper guitar class starting next week. I'm sure she'll be recording before I know it, and who knows... maybe even performing with me.
I've worked on my own original music as time has allowed. I'm one song away from finishing my very first completely solo CD. I've started on the vocal track and hope to finish it up in the next few weeks.
Seeing my photography on display at the BT/Thomas Dolby show in Birmingham a few weeks ago was an amazing experience. Sherry and I enjoyed it a lot. I think DA's sponsorship of the tour is an incredible thing. They are taking DA outside of the internet realm into the real world. Here's to their continued success!
My golf game certainly improved this year! I found a very cool group of guys I've regularly been playing with, all musicians. It's a great stress-reliever. I bought a custom set of TaylorMade irons which has really helped, and some instructional DVDs. I have to mention the Calloway Big Bertha 454 driver that my friend
Damon Johnson (Brother Cane, Slave to the System, Alice Cooper) gave me as a gift. I've smacked some incredible drives with it (one at 316 yards that I measured, and another one that carried a dogleg left to the side of a lateral water hazard - had to be every bit of 320). I've also put in a lot of hours on the driving range and playing as much as I can squeeze into my schedule. I'm really looking forward to spring in 2007 and playing in warmer weather! Sherry picked up golf too! She took a beginner's class this fall and is doing well. I got her a new set of clubs for Christmas that she really likes, and should help her improve a lot.
The one thing I am most happy about is the reconnection to my faith and relationship with
Jesus. I have found so much peace of mind and comfort in strengthening my faith. I've been able to successfully deal with a lot of old issues and find the place where I am comfortable and happy. It hasn't been easy, but I'm very thankful for it. We've been fairly regular at our church, and thanks to my good friend
Billy Wilkes (John Waite's drummer), found an awesome Bible study group we attend every Thursday night. It's a wonderful experience, and different from anything I've ever encountered. It's completely laid back, and everyone is so at ease. Our leader Joel is a very passionate and knowledgable guy - simple inspiring. I'm incredibly thankful for him, and Allen & Julie Park, who host the study in their home.
In the world of web design, I had a busy year, creating the
Slave to the System website, assisting in revamping my local music community website,
BhamBuzz.com, and keeping the
Traumatide and
The Welfare sites up-to-date. My web hosting business has grown, which has been a big blessing that I'm thankful for.
Finally, here in the last couple of months I've found just a little time to pursue my photography more. I am hoping to find more time to get out and shoot, but at least I've been able to get back to some of my existing photos and present them here on DA. I've still got 1000s of photos that I've never gotten around to submitting. So you can be sure there's more to come.
